FAQ

Q: Who can qualify for Extracurricular Training Support?
Any student enrolled in a public school in grades 6-11, under 18 years of age, who has the desire to grow as a theatre artist through private study or advanced summer training.

Q: I want to attend a theatre summer camp, may I apply?
Yes. The institution must be a non-profit, or affiliated with a non-profit, able to receive funds via a grant. Please email Grace Chon at grace@americantheatrewing.org or schedule a call here if you have a question about your desired program.  

Q: I want to attend a program hosted by a local professional theatre, may I apply?
Yes. The theatre must be a non-profit, or affiliated with a non-profit, and able to receive funds via a grant. Please email Grace Chon at grace@americantheatrewing.org or schedule a call here if you have a question about the eligibility your desired program.

Q: The camp I want to attend is in a different state, will the support pay for my flight to get there?
No. The support funds will go to tuition/room and board at your selected program.The costs of travel will be your responsibility, unless the program provides transportation as part of their tuition fees.

Q: How long does the support last?
This is a one time scholarship and the duration of the support will be unique to each applicant's program. Typically, Summer Study support will cover the entire duration of a formalized program of study. After School Study support may cover a few weeks of intense training, while other programs may provide a semester or yearlong program of lessons. Information on your program's duration will be collected on the application. 

Q: Must I use the funds only in summer months?
No, funds may pay for extracurricular opportunities all year round. 

Q: Is there any cost to the student?
No, there is no application fee associated with this program. However, the funding is released to the program or lesson provider directly. Additional costs (such as transportation) will need to be arranged for and paid by the student. 

Q: What if I don’t get in to my proposed program?
For applicants who are chosen for support, in the event that your proposed opportunity isn’t feasible for whatever reason, our staff will work with you to make sure you are able to enroll at an alternate extracurricular opportunity of similar quality.

Q: Can I mail in a paper application?
